Program Outcomes

The METU History Department PhD program is designed to achieve the following outcomes:

Upon graduation, alumni of the History PhD program should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge in their historical field of concentration
  2. Make a substantial contribution to the discipline by completing an original dissertation manuscript based on individual research
  3. Understand major methodologies of historical writing and are able to implement a chosen set of methodologies in their own research
  4. Conduct independent research in archives, libraries and similar institutions
  5. Have mastered the language(s) relevant to their research fields
  6. Participate in academic conferences, present research papers and produce original publishable work
  7. Contribute to information sharing and cooperation in the domestic and international academic community
  8. Acquire skills in undergraduate teaching, course planning and student evaluation
  9. Uphold professional and ethical standards in the discipline
