Program Outcomes
The METU History Department PhD program is designed to achieve the following outcomes:
Upon graduation, alumni of the History PhD program should be able to:
- Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge in their historical field of concentration
- Make a substantial contribution to the discipline by completing an original dissertation manuscript based on individual research
- Understand major methodologies of historical writing and are able to implement a chosen set of methodologies in their own research
- Conduct independent research in archives, libraries and similar institutions
- Have mastered the language(s) relevant to their research fields
- Participate in academic conferences, present research papers and produce original publishable work
- Contribute to information sharing and cooperation in the domestic and international academic community
- Acquire skills in undergraduate teaching, course planning and student evaluation
- Uphold professional and ethical standards in the discipline
